Devertere

Devertere is an Italian artistic perfume house based in Ciriè, near Turin, founded by father and son Lorenzo and Federico Cavoretto. Lorenzo brings a long career in the industry and a working knowledge of the craft: the formula, the weight of raw materials, the balance of an accord. Federico, who studied marketing, looks at perfume more conceptually, shaped by art, design and visual culture. The name was his idea. It comes from the Latin divertere, to turn elsewhere, and means to deviate or change direction, but also to amuse. Federico has it tattooed on his arm.

The fragrances are signed by Grasse-trained noses. Sofia Bardelli, a pharmacy graduate from Pavia, was one of twelve candidates selected for the Grasse Institute of Perfumery run by Givaudan. Vincent Ricord comes from a Grasse family of perfumers, has twenty years as a senior perfumer behind him and has taught at the École Supérieure du Parfum in Paris. The house also works with Bertrand Duchaufour, trained in Grasse and long one of the key names in artistic perfumery.

What Devertere looks for in a perfume is transformation on skin: a fragrance should surprise, change over the hours and leave a lasting trail. Its stated references are the Nouvelle Vague, Pop Art, Dada and Surrealism, which turn into unusual pairings such as flowers with plastics or leather with synthetic resins. The bottle follows the same idea and rests on a stand that tilts it at 135 degrees.

The range of extraits de parfum includes Chillin' (à la Tropezienne), Sunset Colada, Green Ice, Just For One Day, Panama Affair, Oudonism, Suedexcess, The Way You Kiss Me and Promise Her the Moon.

Spezieri is an official retailer of Devertere. These perfumes are built to evolve, so it is worth following one for a few hours before deciding: we offer 2 ml samples, and you can try them on skin at our shop in Treviso, Calmaggiore 54.
