Niche and artistic perfumes

Niche perfumery · Treviso

Here you'll find 461 perfumes from 31 independent houses, Italian and international, all exclusive to Spezieri in Treviso. Filter them by brand, olfactory family, size and price; many come with a 2 ml sample so you can try them before choosing the bottle.

What niche perfumery is

We speak of niche, or artistic, perfumery when a fragrance comes from an author's vision rather than a marketing plan. The houses are often small, work in limited numbers and choose raw materials and concentrations freely, without having to please everyone. The result is recognisable, sometimes surprising fragrances that tell the story of a place, a memory or an idea.

It isn't a matter of price, nor of rarity for its own sake. The difference lies in creative freedom and care: accords built around one raw material, such as an incense, a leather or a flower, and selective distribution through perfumeries that know the products and can advise on them. Spezieri is one of them: we choose each house one by one, and many of them are Italian.

Try before you buy

A niche perfume should be worn before it's bought. That's why we offer 339 samples of 2 ml, priced from €5 to €50: enough to wear the fragrance for a few days and see how it changes on your skin.

With Try Me, if you buy the same perfume in full size within 30 days, the cost of the sample comes back to you as a discount voucher.

How to choose by olfactory family

The easiest way to find your bearings is to start from the olfactory family, the dominant character of the fragrance. If you love freshness, look at citrus, aquatic and green scents. If you want warmth and depth, amber, woody, incense and leather are the right ground. Lovers of sweet notes will find their way among gourmand and vanilla fragrances, while florals and musks range from the most classic rose to a clean-skin effect.

A practical tip: try the fragrance on your skin and wait a few hours before deciding. Top notes fade within minutes; the true character of an artistic perfume shows in the heart and the base. Each family page explains the typical notes and collects the perfumes that belong to it.

Brands to start with

If you don't know where to begin, these are the brands with the widest selection in our catalogue. Each brand page gathers the house's fragrances, with their olfactory notes and samples where available.

Frequently asked questions about niche perfumes

What is the difference between niche and commercial perfumes?

Commercial perfumes are designed to appeal to the widest possible audience and are sold everywhere. Niche perfumes come from independent houses, with more freedom in the choice of raw materials and style, and are sold only in selected perfumeries.

Are artistic perfumery and niche perfumery the same thing?

In practice the two terms are used almost as synonyms. "Artistic" puts the emphasis on the author and their vision, "niche" on selective distribution and small numbers. Both sides live together in our selection.

How can I try a niche perfume before buying it?

With the 2 ml sample, available for many fragrances in the catalogue, or in our shop in Treviso. With Try Me the price of the sample comes back to you as a discount voucher if you buy the same perfume in full size within 30 days.

Do niche perfumes last longer?

It depends on concentration and raw materials more than on the label. An extrait de parfum usually lasts longer than an eau de parfum, and base notes such as resins, woods and musks stay on the skin longer than citrus and fresh notes.

How do I choose a niche perfume if I don't know where to start?

Start from an olfactory family you already love, or from a perfume you've worn and liked, and ask Musa, our online olfactory consultant: she suggests similar fragrances from the catalogue. Then try them with the samples.

Where is the Spezieri shop?

At Calmaggiore 54, in Treviso's historic centre, between the Cathedral and Piazza dei Signori. If you can't visit, you can order the same perfumes and samples online.
