Theodoros Kalotinis

Theodoros Kalotinis was born and raised in Heraklion, on Crete, and that is where his laboratory and boutique are today. His grandmother started it all: when he was a child she would blindfold him and ask him to name ingredients by smell alone. As a teenager he collected perfumes, and from 2012 he began composing his own, using natural raw materials from Greece and further afield, diluted in alcohol of agricultural origin.

He backed the craft with years of study: a degree in chemical and process engineering, an MSc in cosmetic science and international training in perfumery and formulation. The Greek industrial property office granted him a patent for a method of making realistic gourmand fragrances with techniques borrowed from pastry making, and the whole range is built on it. Vogue France nicknamed him «the King of Gourmands», which sums it up fairly well.

The names tell you what to expect: Crème Brûlée, Tiramisu, Peach Macaron, Pistachio Latte, Coffee Addict, Lemon Tart. Each one starts from a specific dessert and tries to reproduce its smell as faithfully as possible. The catalogue comes in two lines, extrait de parfum and eau de parfum, and beyond the gourmands it also has citrus, green, floral and woody scents for anyone who wants something less sugary.

Everything is conceived and made in Greece. In the Cretan lab the house handles every step, from formula to bottling and quality control, under ISO 22716 certification for good manufacturing practice. Kalotinis has also created bespoke fragrances for King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
