Extra Virgo
Extra Virgo is a Florentine house, based on Via del Trebbio, and its perfumes are made at the Castle of Montecucchi in the hills around Florence. Behind the brand is Alex Postiglione, Prince of Limbin, a descendant of the Konbaung dynasty of Burma. He was born in Florence, studied art history and has devoted his life to plants and anthropology. He grows and gathers some of his raw materials in family gardens scattered around the world.

The starting point is old: medicinal and aromatic plants have been with us forever, as food, remedy, drug or sacred object, and some were banned or hidden away because of their effects and their pagan past. Extra Virgo sets out to bring those forgotten smells back and to give sensuality its place in perfume again. The mood is deliberately decadent.
The first collection, Forbidden Botanicals, has five small-batch perfumes blended by hand at Montecucchi: Monte Kush, Pangea, Animal Café, Cacao Ritual and Sacred Tobacco. Monte Kush, for instance, is dedicated to the castle and combines Damascus rose absolute, Turkish rose otto, cannabis flowers from the estate, Omani frankincense, Cambodian oud wood and Tuscan black rosemary. The second collection, Les Fleurs du Mal, brings five extraits de parfum devoted to flowers and bees: rose, violet, osmanthus, tuberose and helichrysum, worked with honey, beeswax, propolis, Chinese and Vietnamese ouds, spices and resins sourced from small producers.
