Aperitif with Calaj
Sunday, September 6 Profumeria Spezieri hosts the aperitif dedicated to Calaj Perfume, one of the most recognizable names in contemporary artistic perfumery.
The brand was born in 2020 in Arad, Romania, from the vision of Flavius Călaj, and within a few years has built an international following without ever turning to industrial production. The motto that accompanies every bottle says it better than any presentation could: "Made with soul, not with a machine." Limited and numbered editions, uncompromising raw materials, collaborations with internationally renowned perfumers, and packaging hand-dressed by small local artisan workshops. Fragrances that don't try to please everyone: they try to stay in the mind.
Those familiar with niche perfumery have likely already encountered two of the house's most celebrated creations:
Delizia Oscura — Extrait de Parfum, 25%. A gourmand that refuses to play it easy: it opens with bergamot, ylang ylang, raspberry and coffee, moves through an unexpected heart of violet, hazelnut, lily of the valley and a milky note, and settles slowly onto dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel and musk. Indulgent, yes, but with a depth that keeps banality at bay.
Transilvania — Extrait de Parfum, 25%. Born from the legend of Dracula, and turning it on its head: not to frighten, but to bring light into darkness. Black cherry, rose oxide and angelica on opening; a dense heart of jasmine, tuberose, immortelle and honey; a long, magnetic base of coumarin, opoponax, musk, patchouli, vanilla and oud. Intense, rich, the kind that doesn't go unnoticed.
But on Sunday, we won't be looking back.
Calaj will join us to present his new creations, including Rose Pumpkin Pie — in preview, just days before its debut at Pitti Fragranze in Florence. A rare chance to smell the house's newest works before they reach the market, and to do so alongside the people who conceived them.
Following the presentation, there will be a convivial gathering: a toast together, to share first impressions and keep the conversation going at a leisurely pace.
